Separate root category for top navigation
With the "Standalone root category for top navigation" plugin, you can select a subcategory of your shop as the root category for the main navigation.

Would you like to display part of your category tree in the main navigation of your shop?
Then simply activate the option "Do NOT display in the main navigation" for all other categories. But what if you want to display a subcategory? With the "Independent root category for the top navigation" plugin, you can define a subcategory as the root category for the top navigation.
The only restriction is that the subcategory must be part of your shop's category tree - i.e. no categories that are assigned to another subshop can be used. The configuration of the plugin is very simple: select the desired category in the plugin configuration, empty the cache - done.
